| SF Camerawork is a 28 year-old non-profit, artists'
organization whose purpose is to stimulate dialogue, encourage inquiry,
and communicate ideas about contemporary photography and related technologies
through a variety of artistic and educational programs. |
| Through exhibitions, publications, an on-going lecture
series and innovative educational programs, Camerawork provides a
forum in which to address broad social and aesthetic issues using
the photographic medium as its focus. |
| Camerawork: A Journal of Photographic Arts is devoted
to presenting new writing and high quality reproductions of artists'
work that interpret and reflect contemporary issues in photography
and related media. Camerawork's objective is to embrace new ideas
and debate about contemporary forms of photography, and to provide
a context for the development of current theory and practice. |
| Artists featured in the Journal have included Richard
Barnes, Lucinda Devlin, James Fee, Robert Parke-Harrison, Todd Hido,
Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Deborah Luster, Sally Mann, Laurie Novak,
Alan Sekula, the Starn Twins, Larry Sultan, Joel-Peter Witkin, David
Wojnarowicz, and many others. |
| Contributing Writers have included David Levi-Strauss,
Geoffrey Batchen, Rebecca Solnit, Timothy Druckery, Reena Jana, Martha
Rosler, Douglas Nickel, Ellen Handy, Doug Harvey, and Carol Squiers. |
